Halong is a popular coastal city in Quang Ninh province, Vietnam. International travelers typically enter Vietnam through major airports like Noi Bai (Hanoi) or Cat Bi (Hai Phong), then travel to Halong by road. Most visitors to Vietnam require either a visa or visa exemption depending on their nationality. The immigration process at Vietnamese airports involves passport control, where officers verify visas, passport validity, and entry eligibility. Travelers should ensure their passport has at least six months' validity beyond their planned departure date and have proof of onward travel and accommodation. Vietnam's immigration authorities may ask about the purpose of your visit, duration of stay, and accommodation details. It's essential to have all required documents organized and easily accessible. While Halong itself doesn't have an international airport, entry requirements for Vietnam apply to all visitors regardless of their final destination within the country. Travelers should be aware that overstaying visas results in significant fines and potential bans from re-entering Vietnam. Before traveling to Halong, check if your nationality requires a visa for Vietnam. The visa policy varies significantly by country, with some nationalities eligible for visa-free stays, others needing electronic visas (e-visas), and some requiring traditional visas obtained in advance. Always verify current requirements as policies can change with little notice.
