Private minivan drivers meeting domestic flights at Van Don Airport sometimes claim the public shuttle has finished for the day and offer an inflated ride to Halong City. Verify the actual shuttle schedule at the airport information desk before accepting any private offer.
Jetty porters at Tuan Chau Marina may insist on carrying bags the short distance from taxi to boat and then demand a high fee. Politely decline or agree on a small tip in advance if you need help.
